American Candies

This week has been amazing once again. The Lord continues to bless this missionary without end.  I sit here and look back at the week and think how will I ever be able to possibly tell my family about what went on this week, let alone, have time to do so.  This week brought the close of yet another transfer.  Whoa, that was fast!  (blessing in disguise)  I feel like just a week ago it was 6 weeks ago and I was starting training with Elder Poyfair.  So it's good to know the time is going, but I kinda want a little more now that I know a little better what I am doing.  All I can do is hope that who ever I am with during the transfers picks up on the way to do this work that I have learned and then push it to the fullest and that's how I can help people the best.  I am still training Elder Poyfair and he is excited about that because I kept joking with him that he would train as well.

On Sunday we didn't have nearly the families we wanted but that just made the "house cleaning" for this week that much easier.  We ended up dropping a lot of families so we can focus on others and make better use of our time.  Missionaries that can manage their time are probably the most successful, so we are recognizing here.  It's good also because we have three good solid families in preparation and one of them was in a little trouble this week (more on that in a bit).  These families have been prepared and it's good to see the change they are having in their lives.  For starters, Antonio and Enies just got one step closer to the marriage process and we figured something out yesterday in a meeting with them.  Antonio, without knowing about the word of wisdom, just up and quit drinking two or three days after we visited him.  He said,  "It just didn't feel right so I quit".  That was ridiculous!  That was a proof of his faith to us and it made my day yesterday.  We were asking him what changes he had seen in in his life so we could help him to give us a reference.  We didn't get a reference, but we did get that sweet bit of information (testimony builder).   Next was an issue we had earlier with Oscar and Claudia.  They were having marriage problems to the point where they thought they were going to leave one another.  So Elder Poyfair and I introduced a few gospel principles like charity, forgiveness, repentance and faith.  Then we visited them last night to see how things went and at the end of our lesson about the gospel of Jesus Christ,  Claudiaopened up and realized that the problems she was having in her marriage were trials and she needed to have the faith to push through.  Her favorite scripture is Ether 12: 27.  Take a look at that one and try to understand how that applies in her situation.  After that lesson Elder Poyfair and  I felt much like marriage counselors and that's a draining job, let me tell you!  It brings a whole new perspective to what the Savior said, "Come unto me all ye that are burdened and heavy laden and I shall give you rest."  I don't know how the majority of marriages exist without the gospel, it's just insane.  Also, as we went to the register this week and when we finally talked to the lady and got the papers figured out (two and a half hours later) we handed her a bill of 500 meticais.  Convenientlyenough she didn't have change. Grrrrrrrr.  So we went to go get change, but it didn't seem like any one could help us out, it was crazy!  I have never seen anything like it and all just to get some papers done.  Eventually we got some change, but we were onemetical short!  I know, right???!!!!   It was dumb and so we decided to sell one of Elder Poyfair's American candies so we could have the right amount.  When we tried to sell it to this guy, he start joking with us, saying, "OK, so if I buy this candy, where will I go?"  I had to fight the urge top tell him he would go to the celestial kingdom if he just helped us out.  It was really kinda funny.  So, after he bought the candy from us we were able to go get the marriage documents.  It's just funny the blessings that come about as a result of trying to do the Lord's will.  (Nephi 3:7).

That is more or less how my week has been and I hope your's is going well too.  Dad said you did great on your talk, Mom.  I knew you would and congratulations on the calling, this should be fun!!!  As for your questions.... the Primaries here are huge, but not many kids show up because their parents don't show up, so it's hard to have a full room.  None the less, lots of Primary kids. As for plans when I return, I know I want to go to college again, but I also really, really want to fly planes.  It just makes me trunky to think about all this.  I would really like to have a job real soon after I get back, so if you guys could help me with that, it would be great.

Sorry this letter is so long, but I love you guys!  Thanks for your support.

Love Elder Proksch
