Brain Ideas

A few days ago I had the brain idea to join the local YMCA just so I could use their pool to train for an upcoming triathlon.  Naturally, I decided that if I was going to suffer, so should the rest of my family, so I signed them up too!  Last night I set my alarm and made arrangements with my oldest son to go with me to the pool right when they opened so we could make sure we got a lane to ourselves (wasn't sure how many people were going to be there).   I laid out my swim suit, new goggles, new swim cap, nose plug, ear plugs and towel.  I even went as far as to bring extra clothing "just in case" the pool was full and I didn't want to wait.  I could then go workout on the bikes or other stuff in the gym I don't know how to use. Well, 5:30am rolled around and I promptly turned off my alarm, laid in bed doing the personal "debate" on whether I was getting up or not and "Is this really worth losing sleep over?"  Next thing I know, it's 6am (funny how that happens...) and I'm busting a move to get us over to the pool.  Let me also report that it was 32 degrees outside when we left....in our bathing suits.  There were 3 other people in the pool when we got there.  I have to say that I am real proud of myself because 1.) I actually got out of bed, 2.) I jumped right in the water (LOVE heated pools!) 3.) I gave my best effort after not having swam in the past 4 years 5.) I stuck it out for 1000 meters and most importantly...6.) I didn't drown!  If I can get better at making the most use of my arms and legs in swimming, I think I might actually do well in my tri and my "brain idea" will have been one of the best ideas I've had in a long, long time!
