Lessons Learned

I hope everyone is enjoying the hot weather there in Vegas. Here, it's a little different. It could be bright and sunny in the morning, but in a matter of minutes it can change to a full force thunderstorm. That's just the way it goes. I feel like I am getting into my groove again. My zone leaders are really interesting. They want us to baptize, but are telling us we can´t baptize this 8 year old boy for some reason they don't tell us. It's like, "Make up your mind." They have a problem with being punctual. We arrived at the desired time of 8:30, which they set and then they showed up at 9:30. Completely ridiculous. I don't understand why the rest of the zone suffer because of two leaders that can't get their act together. They chastise us when they have no room to speak. Sorry to vent, but it's just frustrating some days. By all means, I don't want the job, but if they won't do it, someone else needs to.

I think I have about tried all the weird foods I can think of here in El Salvador, so nothing new there this week.

As far as investigators go, I have one guy that I am teaching that can´t hear, but can talk perfectly fine and has a desire to learn. The only way to talk to him is through paper and pencil. It should be interesting. He normally offends people bcause they don´t understand his situtation. He has to read lips to talk to people and from someone like me who does not speak his native language, it's a little tough. I know the Lord has prepared this man for us and a couple of other people too. We are getting more and more people to church. I learned the hard lesson again that if you don´t gain the trust and confidence of your people, nothing will happen. Sometimes just being a friend can make all the difference. Something I learned in my Boy Scout Eagle project that Elaine from Camden told me about networking with people.

I hope more than anything right now I can be a light in the darkness or an example for these people to do good. I know that there is nothing I can personally do for this people, but the Lord can do it all.

In church yesterday I got the answer to one of my prayers about what is the difference in God and Jesus Christ. 1). God is like the architect of everything and makes all the plans and creates things spiritually, while Jesus is the builder and does things here in the earth. 2). I also learned the difference in Jesus Christ and Jehova. Jehova is Jesus' name before earth or before he came here and he received the name Jesus Christ when he got here. I am learning so much and hope that one day at the end of my mission you guys can come visit. There are a lot of people here who are thankful for the lessons you taught me and thankful for making me into the type of person I am. I learned a few good manners, some good common sense and having a good head on your shoulders can go a long way in the world. Mind your p's and q's, always be good and nice to others and sometimes you find it coming back to you. Thank you so much Dad and Mom for all that you taught me. I miss you very much and Logan, I am making a list of things to do when I get home, so just you wait ... we will have fun. Reid I know you will have changed probably more then I can believe but I will have changed too.

Hopefully, the United States is still there when I get back and we won't have a big national mess to clean up. Don´t worry, here in El Salvador, they aren't too keen on our president. No one is to happy with Arizona right now and daily people ask me why my country is killing immigrants to the states from El Salvador. I just laugh inside because they don´t understand the situation. Here in their own country they have laws too. I am required to carry a form of identifacation. I have an immigrant card and when I explain it like that, they understand and are a little more patient with me. Just smile in the face of bad times, don´t let the things that don´t really matter get to you and move along.

Be happy,
love Elder Proksch
