This week has been rather trying. My trying to teach my companion is going rather poor and I think I am going to have to go over the rules with him again. On the other hand, I had a great experience. 2 days ago I passed a restaurant and felt impressed to go inside. I passed it because we were busy and running to pick up an investigator. We passed it again, only this time with the investigator I had the same feeling. We took our people to the church and I promised myself to pass by after church. So church came and went and afterward, I passed by again. It's sad because sometimes I can tell my companion doesn´t have the Spirit and will even tell me I am wasting my time when I knock doors. I just listen to the Spirit and it did guide me to this person... the owner of this restaurant. She is really nice and positive about things about the church. I know the Lord has lead me there and now it's my job to not screw this up.
Teaching my companion is hard. I try to teach with the scriptures and with prayer, but you can only lead the horse to the water. You can´t make him drink it.
Enough of that. I have had a really good week otherwise. For those who don´t know, I love mangos. So super good news there! I found a mango tree. They are all over here in El Salvador. You wouldn´t believe it, but I guess there are a few different types of mangos. There are the big ones you see in the store. There are little ones the size of a small apple. Green ones, orange ones and I have even heard there are blue ones. So I have spent some time in a mango tree picking and eating mangos. I think I might have seen one of those sometimes invisible cane toads. They are big but camofluog great.
Well its week 5 of this change. One more week and I find out if I leave or teach more here. I am finding the local culture to be interesting and I think I might be changing. By that I mean picking up a few habits. My companion says I have been growing and I am like, "How would you know? You have only known me for 6 weeks." That's when he pointed out the cuff on my pants and how it is a little higher than normal. I checked and he could be right, I don´t know. It could be all the vitamins and other good things I have eaten in those pupusas. Beans and rice have once again (like eggs and milk) become a staple. We eat yogurt almost as much. Can you tell I am hungry right now?
It's the hottest part of the year here right now and I think we have hit the peak. Nothing like sleeping in a puddle of your own sweat. Everyone awaits this so-called rainy season. With it only raining once here, I look forward to having a little more water.
Well, conference is coming up and there is an opportunity I might get to watch it in English. So me and this other Gringo in my district are planning something for that. If all goes well we will watch it in the secretary's office where there is AC and a small TV. Everyone else will watch it in the Sacrament hall. Our plan is to buy a bunch of snacks for our 2 day "spirit marathon". Oh ya...this is going to rock! The best part is this office has sleeping bags that we can spread out on the floor so we don´t have to sit the whole time. Oh, its going to rock! I am super excited about this.
If I failed to mention anything else, I am sorry. I think I covered it all. Depression has been something that has been taking hold on a lot of Elders, which is probably why I spend most of my time motivating my companion. I won´t let it get to me.
I like the quote you sent me, Logan: "All the water in the world, no matter how hard it tried, couldn´t sink the smallest ship unless it got inside." Thank you so much for that quote and the others you sent.
I am going to have to go. haha If that makes sense. I guess Spanish is taking over my mind and I can´t think straight again. It happens to most of the Gringos here. We all end up speaking half English and half Spanish.
Saluuuuuuu! That's good bye.
Alex
