Thats really cool that Vegas got a lot of rain. I miss it. For being as raining as they said it would be here its not. It only drizzled once all night. We have had fog. That was cool. I have been taking more and more pics with the camera.
As far as families go, I have found myself loving the families I do service for more This past week I had the opportunity to cook for a family twice. I love to cook, it makes me feel good and safer about the food I am eating. Quite frankly I could cook better then our maid, but I eat the food anyway to make her feel better. Some of the food she makes literally makes you sick. I've had diarhea, vomiting, and who knows what else. After a while you just give up and say I don't care if I am sick. I am working any way. Bring it on. I had one funny experience when I was on a bus and had food poisioning. I had a window seat for reasons. We were driving down the road and I had to throw up. Well, all the windows behind me were open, so I tried to direct it down, but at 40mph the wind just takes it and scatters it whereever. So, I think some of it came back in the bus through the windows behind me. I laughed, they cried. It was fun.
So I love to serve. It's what adds variety to the mission. My companion is starting to slack off in regular mission work and I have a hard time motivating at times. Thats got to be the worst job... encouraging him to work. The other thing I have trouble with is he is my trainer, so he treats me like a dog at times. I just try to serve him and hope he will appreciate it and remember what he is doing. Its tough at times. He is smart in the gospel and I love him a lot. Thats why I want him to do good but its like an investigator. You can lead him to the gospel but you can't make him drink.
I have been very busy. This week we are involved in having an investigator married. Then she will be baptized the next day. Thats going to be fun.
If there is one thing I have learned, that is the thing I think god wants the most is his children is to obey the commandments, read the scriptures, pray, go to church, pay tithing and fast offerings, and find others to bring to the gospel. I know it sounds easy but you would be surprised how many people can't even keep the sabbath day. It's like a drug to them, they say "Oh I don't want to work on Sunday", but when you go visit them, they are selling on the side of the street. Its like they don't trust God to watch over them and that He will bless them for not working that one day of the week. Anyway I hate to dwell on the bad but we all have our challenges, if not, what would we do and talk about.
I have been reading a book called Our Heritage from the missionary library. It's really interesting and has been building my testimony of the church and of Joseph Smith. I love the people of El Salvador. They are so nice. I look at this country and I see trash every where....broken, battered things, bum problems, but when you look closely you can see an inventor (someone who has made trash in to art). Happy people who have made the best with what they have and would be willing to share their best with you. Their spirits are strong, their faces are bright, and the children...you can see the light and face of christ. They are honest, true, and they project the gospel even if they are of a different religion. I love the children. We try to teach the gospel to the leader of the home but I always find myself relating with the kids. They always love to play. Thats one thing I think I will miss a lot about the mission, is going around to different families getting to see these different families happy and the smiles on the kids faces when they see us coming. HEY ELDER.
Thank you so much for all your letters. I really enjoy them. They lift me up.
Love, Elder Proksch
