Everywhere you turned this past week, the talk was all about the Olympics. Really? Yes, really! What a great week in sports it has been...cheering on athletes from our country and also those from others that we just want to see succeed. I think that's the best part of the Olympic Games...having someone good to cheer for. It gives us hope that there is still a lot of people out there that no matter what their circumstance, country, sport, religion, political belief, or family situation, they are going to go out and give it their all. Sure, there's rewards (even medals!), but the underlying purpose is to just go out and do the very best you can. What a great concept and what a relief it is to know that there are still good people in the world, in the spotlight.
I have had the unique opportunity to be working at a local NBC station that is carrying the Olympics. First, let me tell you that I'm not really a big fan of t.v. to begin with (even though I work at a t.v. station), but this past week has definitely been worth each 8-hour work day in front of the t.v. monitor. My job is to actually watch what goes on over the "air", run commercials, fix descrepancies, load programs into the server and assist with newscasts. The Olympics brings a heightened amount of tension to the work place if only for the reason that each commercial that runs is roughly $3-10,000 a piece. Basically, if I miss one, the station loses that money. No stress, right? Anyway, I've actually enjoyed the Olympic coverage, everyday, and look forward to the Closing Ceremonies so we can all look back at the successes of ALL the athletes. My hope is that everyone else has had the same positive experience so far. Post your opinion...
