Happy Hot Independence Day!!

Don't even bother wondering. You know what the answer will be anyway. Yes, it was hot here for the 4th of July in Las Vegas! In fact, the high was 113 degrees in town and 118 at Lake Mead. It was a great day in the sun as we remembered our independence in America. We started the day out in Boulder City (9am and 98 degrees) at their annual "Damboree Celebration" parade. The name reflects the location of the city near the Hoover Dam...The parade starts out like any other with the color guard, political floats and cute little children in various clubs...all labeled "Non-water float". For those that don't know, that means that the water fight doesn't start until about half-way through the parade. Victims, I mean people, on the float are fair game for getting wet. Yes, they have water guns to squirt bystanders along the sidewalks, but the bystanders also have water guns to squirt back. Last year we were ill-prepared with just our bodies to protect us. This year we came with water guns and coolers of water. Believe me, it was great! Everyone got wet and it felt good! We think Dad got a little too excited about the whole event and took it to a military level (which was unnecessary in Mom's opinion).
After the parade, we went home, relaxed, swam in the pool and prepared for the evening's firework display in front of our house. The heat never let off. It was 103 degrees at 9pm that night when we were watching the fireworks. The heat was bearable only because we pulled out the popsicles and water. We would like to say that we are grateful to all those who have ever fought for the freedom of our country. That's what makes Independence Day so important around our house, every year!
