Rapper Elder Proksch

Whoa, okay so crazy....
My new area is called Beria (Beta for those of you who don't speak Portuguese) and my new companions name is Elder Gomes and he is from Cabo Verde.  He's speaks a little English, but mainly Portuguese and he goes home next transfer.  He's excited and sad about that all at the same time.  It's cool to see how he does work because it makes so much more sense than the way I was doing it with my last companion.  Let me tell you, experience makes a difference.  This place is really cool.  I am in the city and there are lots of stairs. ha ha  It's funny because all the poor people live on the top floor and everyone else lives on the bottom.  I have a lot of pictures from the tops of buildings, but the Internet is really slow here and it makes it difficult to send them.  My Portuguese is getting better, I think basically because I am speaking it more and I am becoming more comfortable with it.  It's super cool eu amo meu novo companiero, he's super cool and hilarious.  He takes every opportunity to crack a joke, so the majority of our time in between lessons is spent laughing.  We have an investigator who is progressing rapidly and he is also a producer of rap, which is kinda funny because it's in Portuguese.  It's cool because the first time I got there he looked at me and we were in his studio and he told me to get on the mic and I was like,  "What?"  So my companion, out of no where just walked up and started rapping in Portuguese and then he turned to me and I told him I was white and I can't do this stuff.  My comp said,  "Just go for it!"  (It's a good opportunity to make friends with an investigator).  So I said, "OK" and so I started to rap about the Book of Mormon, which was super funny.  My companion could not stop laughing and after wards our investigator put the words to some music.  What was cool is that it actually sounded kinda cool. ha ha.  I don't think I will make a career out of that, though.  That's actually something Elder Gomes used to do before he came outon his mission.  He used to rap in a group and he showed me some of their music and it's not bad.  The song we did was super funny because after we rapped a little then our investigator got on the mic and started rapping in Portuguese.  Our investigator's name is Dercio.  He's really cool and he has a wife and a little baby that is less than a month old.  We are going over to their house tonight to celebrate with them and I am going to make No Bake cookies.  There is a tradition in Mozambique that your not supposed to take the baby out side of the house until it is a month old so we are going to celebrate her one month mark and we're going to teach another one of the lessons we have. They really are a great family and they make a solid effort every day to read the Book of Mormon and go to church.

Speaking of church, the building we have is super beautiful.  The church tried an experiment here in Mozambique to try and build two chapels like the ones in the United States to see if they could do it and how they would fair.  I can tell you that the first time I walked  into the chapel, I felt like I was back in the states and the spirit was super strong.  The building is absolutely beautiful and I am going to take some pictures.  It's right by the beach and there is a nice breeze that comes in every day.  I work in an area called Ponte Gea.  Lots of Muslims and lots of people from India.  It's really cool except for all the Muslims here that we can't teach.  It's a mission rule.  It's literally life-threatening for these people to leave their church for another.  I don't know why, but I do know that if they are real true-blue Muslims we can't teach them.  Anyway, back to the church, in this branch they have kind of a problem with one of the members that was excommunicated by the last mission president .  But he still hangs around and is causing problems in the branch because people side with his story that the church leaders were wrong when theyexcommunicated him.  So there's that.  It's a minor problem that's not going to stop us.  We are already working with branch president to arrange something so we don't cause any more trouble with him and we can help the branch grow.  Just little problems. ha ha.  Anyway, random fact I just saw my first chameleon the other day and, wow, those things are cool!  Everybody over here (the locals) swear that they are poisonous and that they can kill you.  This white guy, however, knows they don't.  It's super funny because when you pick them up, every one will cross the road to stay away from you and your new little friend.  The chameleon can get angry.  About the only thing they can do though is turn black.  Yeah, they actually change colors it's so cool.  Their eyes are super weird.  So I saw that the other day and the next day to top it all off....... you ready for this ......... a bird crapped on me yes a bird and it wasn't a small one, it was big and it sucked.  After that one got me, then his friend down the street got me again ..... yes, that is correct ladies and gentleman.... not once, but twice.  I wasn't in the mood for a hat trick so I stayed away from trees for a little bit.  Twice in the same day. Let's just say there is no way I saw that one coming.  Still haven't seen any monkeys yet, but I am keeping an eye out so I'll let you know when I do.

So, wow!  Doesn't sound like Reid had much luck either this week.  I mean, wow, that's great kid.  ha ha!  I don't even wanna know how bad that hurt. *Mom's note: Reid literally drilled his the palm of his hand.  I want to wish mom good luck in here triathlon . I'll be pulling for you mom!!!!
Good luck!
Love Elder Proksch
