Tuning In...

Ok,  So things have gotten ten times better since the last time I wrote to everybody.  Yes, the chappas are still hilarious and just about every single one we get into is bumping Lil' Wayne or something like that, so that is funny, but it also makes it a little bit more difficult to teach about the First Vision when your neighbor is tuning into Ludacris and you're trying to tune into the Spirit.  I've learned some tricks to keep the Spirit with me when this happens.  :)   This week we had the unique opportunity to teach a man who is considered wealthy here because he travels a lot.  The spirit in that lesson was almost tangible because his prayer after the lesson was immediately about if he could receive an answer.  So that was really cool (if that makes sense) and the fact that the rest of his family is being baptized in a different area is pretty cool too.  It sets into my mind the thought that no matter where you are, the Lord will find you.  ha ha ha  That was yesterday.

This week has really been full of experiences like that and we intend to have even more this week.  My companion is awesome!  He talks with just about everyone and really takes his time to get to know anyone who wants to listen to our message or anyone who passes by, in that respect.  I am trying to do my best not to hinder him when he speaks and I try to help where I can while I am still learning the language. I am learning as much as I can, as fast as I can, and it's really starting to pay off.  What is really cool is how instantly the help I receive is when I pray.  It's like I pray for people to find and we find them or I pray for lessons to teach and we get lessons to teach. It's not just a few, it's a lot.  We have also committed two girls to baptism on the 29th.  I'm usually a lot more detailed in my journal, so that's where all the good stuff is.  I am spending a lot of time reading the Doctrine and Covenants right now and that has helped me understand the organization of the Church.

It sounds like this week you got the opportunity to do some really good work for another sister, Mom.  That is some of the sweetest joy anyone can know.  I am doing a lot better this week and I am getting better at trying to lose myself in the work.  I find that when I am in the house just kind of studying, it allows my mind to wander and I don't like that.  I like being out there and finding and contacting and teaching new people because that's when my mind is most active and the time flies.  I am really trying hard to stay so busy I don't have time to think and I really want to be even morebusy because that's what I am out here to do.  Last week me and my companion worked on a Christ- like attribute called hope.  It can help with the home sickness thing because you begin to turn that into hope in Christ and the fact that he has a lot of love for you and is really working side by side with you in the mission field.  There is actually a video on You tube and I think it is a Mormon message. It's by Elder Holland and Elder Eyring.  It's really good (definitely brings the Spirit).   Tell as many people as you can to go to the temple.  They are just passing up blessings that could otherwise help them.  When they're not moving the work along or doing things that they are not supposed to, they are only withholding those blessings that the Lord wants to give them.  It's really kind of sad how many people don't realize this and they need to because there are blessings in their lives that they need and they are only holding themselves back.  So enough ranting.... ha ha ha.  But seriously, you don't realize how much of a blessing a temple is until you don't have one to go to (I miss that place something serious!   I am really excited about pushing the bounds of what I am physicallyand spiritually able to do during one day.  As for reading this week, we are going to spend the whole week studying 2 Nephi 9.  There's a lot of stuff in there and I think it's gonna be good.

Oh yeah, I have actually been getting other food this week and the stores here are pretty much like the ones back home, minus a few things, but I haven't figured out what they are yet . Like I said, the food here is pretty good and they have a few different kinds of juices I have not seen before.  As far new food tried, there is this dish called fayjuauda.  It's basically beans with carrots and other veggies, with some rice and its pretty good.  One of the elders here knows how to make it and it was really good.  Most everything else is about the same and, oh, the mango season is about to start which should be interesting.

Adam Hollings is doing fine.  He's excited to get back into country and to continue teaching people. He had a lot of questions about people back in the ward and how and what they were doing, so I gave him as best info as I could.  With regards to the package grandma sent, I have not received it and I probably won't till about a month in or maybe not at all. The mailing system is kinda crazy down here, but I already received a letter from the Stake Presidency in Vegas.  It took about a month to get here since the envelope said August 26th.  Of course, that could have been because I wasn'there yet, but still.  Please tell the Stake Presidency thank you for the letter.  I will write back, but I wanted them to know now, not later.  Thank you to grandma for sending the package anyway.  Right now it's really the thought that counts.

As for my location near the airport, I really have no idea which way is north and which way is south.  I just know there is an airport here.  But I do know that I am in the middle of a ghetto and I would really like to send some pictures of how it is here but I don't want to risk losing the pictures in the mail.  We don't have any way to send them over the Internet here, but it's all good.

I'm really glad that Elder Stankosky has decided to serve a mission.  I'm sure he gave an awesome farewell talk.  Britton just has that in him.  When he gets his email, have him shoot me one, if he can.  I don't really trust the mail down here because it really is just by chance that stuff will get here. It's much better for an email.  I really have no concept of time yet and I am trying to get used to what time is what.  Tell Britton to study, not only the language, but strengthen his testimony on topics like the Restoration, Plan of Salvation and the gospel of Jesus Christ.  You know,  just all the stuff in Preach My Gospel.  These things will help him better adjust to the MTC and if he has those things down, then really get into the language.  The more you study there, the better the transition will be.

Well, it's time for me to get lost in the work again so I will write later.
Love your missionary
Elder Proksch
