Miracles Happen

Well, how's it going family? Things here have been fine. My new companion and I have been working hard and it looks like this next week is going to be very busy.

The ward here has suffered a lot this past week and it has also helped strengthen them too. The Relief Society president's son was traveling at about 8 o'clock in the night and was almost home when M S (major gang) attacked him. There were 2 and one had a machete. They cut him up pretty good and when they finished, gave him 2 bullets in the back of the head. Then they threw him down a well. The most miraculous about this is he is in intensive care at the hospital and still alive. Better yet, when they took the cat scan where the bullets hit, there was a silhouette of a hand and the bullets didn´t pass to his brain. When he fainted, the gangsters thought he was dead so they threw him in the well, but Leo (the boys name) said he felt someone grab him as he was falling and that's when he saw a white hand. All I know is that miracles happen. We don´t need to explain them and a lot of times they don´t make sense. Like the prophet said...we need to be more grateful.

So yesterday in church Brother Cruz still looked a little grieved about the whole thing and many members were giving their testimonies about how bad it must have been. To me, it felt like they were throwing salt in the wound. So my companion and I gave our testimonies, directed to Brother Cruz, but in a way that would help. I talked about a scripture I found in 3rd Nephi, Chapter 19, verse 25. As far as I know, it's the first time in the scriptures that Jesus smiles, so I thought it was worth sharing. Then my companion got up and said how happy he was to be here. That made every one happy. Then he said that he being from El Salvador, really likes pupusas. So now, for about the next 3 weeks we are probably eating pupusas when we get invited to members houses. I think I might get fat or vomit by the end of this mission just because of pupusas! I tried another food the other day. You know, I think I could host a show by now called "Foods of El Salvador". he he he. I ate some wierd flower. Premature flowers can be a lot like a salad if you think of it that way, and a lot of times you eat them with sort of dressing.

Thank you for everything. I miss you all and Dad, if you could send the recipe for the barbecue shrimp skewers, that would be fantastic. I have really found myself in a desire for good food lately. Beans and rice is good, but just doesn´t have a flavor that I like any more. I have made a weird food I don´t know what to call it, but maybe if you are really hungry you can try it. I took a packet of refried beans the other day, heated it up and some spaghetti sauce, put the beans on the bottum and some sauce on top. Then sprinkled a little consume on top. It was alright because it was Fast Sunday. To me it tasted good, but you will have to try it and tell me what you think. My problem was I had to keep the Sabbath Day holy and didn´t want to go buy anything, so we made do with what we had. Amazing, I know. Hey, the mission teaches you a lot.

Love you all,

Elder Proksch
